"I'm a 41 year old busy mom to a son who has severe disabilities, 100% dependent for his care & well being. In a wheelchair, non verbal…he is now 14, weighs over 64 lbs and if you do the math you'll very quickly understand my vested interest in developing, maintaining a strong core, back, arm and overall strength...and also taking care of my own health.
Approximately 7 yrs ago I was diagnosed with autoimmune issues (MS) that can potentially affect all systems of the body, so my goals since that wake up call have been to foster as much health & well being in my life & my being and see it carry through my family. A balanced mind, body, spirit...something I didn't grasp during my younger years!
I looked back at a few of my before photos (like the one above). These photos show where I was before I took some serious steps with completely changing my nutrition and the way I took care of my body. Then in July 2008, I found Fit Yummy Mummy, the missing key to ramp up my health & fitness, begin clean eating and becoming more active!
My Transformation Experience
I admit I have had my ups and downs. I did peak (great physical condition) the end of spring after a vacation then became lax in all areas of my health, wellness & fitness. I had been coasting & not challenging myself! Can we say self sabotage? Fall of 2009 I decided it was time to re-focus & take responsibility of my own body.
It was Time to get started! Stop thinking & start doing!

My transformation experience has been an accumulation of so many smaller parts that have melded together to bring balance into my life, positively affecting my health - my physical & emotional well being.
Successes from challenges that I carry through into each stage of my transformation:
* Jump starting my metabolism by adding in a breakfast/early am snack.
I had gotten in a bad habit of not having breakfast or having food so late in the morning it was basically a brunch or a lunch at that point. I've used the forum suggestions of having some food (a snack/a mini meal) in the early am even if I'm not hungry and then having my breakfast.
* Switching to body weight intervals vs. treadmill intervals.
Again huge difference in the amount of energy & the quality of the interval workouts. I honestly had to fess up that I was using the treadmill exclusively because it was familiar & it wasn't as much work as using my whole body movements!
* Tracking & drinking my optimal daily H2O.
* Beginning & continuing to utilize a food & exercise journal.
This had been difficult & something I really drug my feet on...trying to act like I was a teen immune to being grounded...like I had no accountability!
* Making my Fit Yummy Mummy workouts progressively more challenging.
* Consistent Warming up/Cooling Down
It was not uncommon for me before just to jump in cold turkey and start my workouts.
* Focusing on post workout nutrition-using my protein shake consistently.
I honestly hadn't realized the value & importance of that post workout nutrition and neglected to add that into my lifestyle change.
* Incorporating weekly yoga practices.
* Using the like-minded ClubFYM community for support, education & accountability.
* Focus on nutrient dense foods, clean & supportive eating. cont. my commitment to 0 sugar, 0 dairy, low gluten, again following what works for my digestive health.
Extra personal challenges to myself to continue making progress
* Do not skip workouts
Be consistent and make sure I'm scheduling workouts. I'm also pumped to now have the FYM workout dvds & to start adding these to my workouts~I think it's going to add a whole new level of intensity & variety having Holly coach me through some workouts!
* Get 8 hrs of sleep daily
Going to sleep at a decent hour-no more nightowling! Sleep is when the body systems heal & regenerate.
* Meditation, practicing quiet mind daily
Letting go of judgment towards others & my own self judgment, restorative/healing breathing exercises, keeping all of my "whole" being balanced!
"We cannot become what we need to be, remaining what we are."
~Max Depree
Isn't that the truth?
I'm excited to continue moving forward to new levels of optimal health, physical condition and personal mindfulness. Really…can a body, mind & spirit ever be TOO healthy? There is always room for improvement and I'm grateful than I continue to feel better than before!
I'm becoming a better, healthier version of myself...emotionally, physically, mindfully. I'm slowly but surely turning back the clock on years of not being my healthiest, not my best physically & I'm becoming enlightened of what can truly be better!
Holly's quote in a coaching call really caught my attention: "Deepen your relationship with your body!". I'm going to take that quote to heart as I continue to move forward!
When it comes to success...there are no accidents!
Learning from our mistakes, making new choices, breaking unhealthy habits, getting out of our comfort zones, embracing progress not perfection, doing what you say you will do, focusing on what works and ALLOWING this to work for you ~ this is what leads to successful results!"
